6 Hair Care Tips for Healthy Hair

Special thanks to Pantene for partnering with me on this post! I only partner with brands that I love and trust, and all opinions are my own.

Hi guys! This blog post has been a long time coming! I have been meaning to talk to you guys about hair care for so long but have not been able to get around to it until now, finally! Hair care is so important to me especially because my hair is covered. I used to struggle with dry and frizzy hair so I have started using these 6 tips to help me achieve and maintain healthy hair.

1) Use Sulfate free Shampoo & Conditioner

  • The most important tip starts in the shower! My hair is dry so I like to use a sulfate-free shampoo to keep my hair hydrated BUT I also love a shampoo with a great lather. It’s been hard to find a product that ticks off both those boxes!

  • That’s why I was so excited to try out the new Pantene Sulfate Free Rose Water Collection. When I tried it, I was so happy that the shampoo still created a rich lather and also smelled AMAZING. A key when shampooing, is to focus on shampoo-ing your scalp and when using conditioner focus on your ends! My ends are the most dry but I feel like the conditioner in this line gives it a boost of hydration and tames my fizziness, but still leaves my hair light which is a huge bonus!

2) Avoid Hair Ties

  • Being covered, I am constantly tying my hair in a bun underneath my hijab. I always used hair ties with tight clasps so that I could feel my hair being secure underneath. But that was doing more harm than good to my hair. It would always get pulled and stuck to my hair tie which caused a lot of hair breakage. So I recently switched to these amazing slip scrunchies with fabric around them which are much more gentle to the hair but still feel tight enough to hold my hair.

3) Take your vitamins

  • If you’re anything like me and are not always getting the essential vitamins you need from your diet vitamins can give you a boost! B-vitamins (which include biotin, panthenol, etc), Vitamin D and Iron are great for hair. I don’t always eat well, so by taking supplements I can rest assured that my hair remains healthy!

4) Don’t brush your hair when wet

  • This is such a common mistake that I used to do!! I always found it easier to brush my hair in the shower but I learned that when your hair is wet it is actually weaker and more likely to break if brushed. The best thing to do is pat dry your hair with a towel after your shower, let it air dry (or blow dry without a brush) and then use a comb to brush your hair from the ends of your hair upwards.

5) Clean your hair brush

  • I thought that just meant removing the hair off of the hair brush. But, we’re actually supposed to wash the brush with a baking soda and warm water concoction to remove oil build-up that can cause bacteria. Doing this at least once a month helps keep your hair brush and hair clean.

6) Use Silk Pillow Covers

  • This one definitely feels like more of a luxury! Unlike cotton pillow covers, 100% silk pillow covers lessen hair breakage and help keep your hair from getting frizzy and tangled.

Do you guys do any of the above tips on a daily basis? Keep in mind you don’t have to start every tip all at once but you can introduce each change one step at a time and you will eventually notice the incredible difference in the health of your hair. I hope you found this post helpful. :)
