Liam's First Birthday Party! Winnie The Pooh Theme

Liam's First Birthday Party! Winnie The Pooh Theme

Ahh I still cannot believe Liam is ONE! :)

What a beautiful first year it has been with my sweet baby boy Liam! I knew I wanted to throw him a big birthday party for his first birthday and boy did I stress about it! I was thinking about it for months before I made the final decision on the Winnie The Pooh theme! I took it to instagram for a vote when I was stuck between this theme and a Little Man theme. It was Winnie for the win! Finding decorations for the Winnie The Pooh theme was a lot more difficult because there is not much out there for it, so we had to DIY most of it.

I created a Pinterest board of ideas for his birthday theme to help me out, but I honestly could not have done it without the Paper Florist who helped me finalize the decoration ideas and especially the main table/ backdrop! On the day of Liam’s birthday party, it was such a rush preparing everything and setting up at the hall because we had a limited amount of time to do it, so I cannot thank my family and my in-laws enough for helping make it possible and putting everything together! They were such a huge part in making his birthday party a success.

I wanted to make sure every part of the sweet table fit the theme. The wooden slabs holding the dessert and the wooden crates on the floor for decoration brought out the Hundred Acre Wood vibe from Winnie the Pooh. The vendors did such an amazing job with all the desserts to tie it all together.

Liam’s birthday cake turned out so beautiful! The Winnie the Pooh detail on the cake is just incredible. A special thank you to Sweet Me Desserts for not only wow-ing us with how the cake looked but also how her desserts tasted. She made the cupcakes, cake pops and the dessert cups. Everyone LOVED them because they weren’t too sweet, and they were perfectly moist and light.

The macaron tower from Macaronage was the cutest little addition to the sweet table! I am still in awe how she created Pooh shaped macarons. They tasted so delicious too.

Also how cute do the clay Hunny pots look! I showed you guys on instagram when I was DIY-ing them and I can’t get over how amazing they are!! We purchased the pots and some paint from the dollar store and painted them ourselves. It was so much fun making them. :)

A party is not a party without Suzy Q Doughnuts. They are may favourite doughnuts in Ottawa and so I knew I had to include them as part of the sweet table. I chose flavours that would best fit the Winnie the Pooh theme and that looked kind of woodsy.

How adorable are the oreo beehives, wafers, and the rice krispies?! I seriously lost count of how many of them I ate because they were so good. These desserts were beautifully made by Chocolate N Cookies. I had provided her with the edible bumblebee decoration that I got from Amazon so she can add it on top of the desserts and she made them look so perfect!

These cookies need to be entered in a contest somewhere because Enat Cookies would definitely steal the show and win!! How beautifully articulate yet refreshingly elegant are these Winnie the Pooh themed cookies!!! I didn't want anyone to eat them because they just look too perfect!!!

Let’s be real, food makes everyone happy at a party so we had a lot of it. It was absolutely delicious.

For activities at the birthday party, we got a bumblebee piñata which complimented the little bumblebees in the backdrop decoration and on the desserts! I found it at bulk barn on a whim and I just knew we were meant to have it at his party.

We also brought in the Zoo Crew to entertain the kids with a few animals. The adults were pretty entertained too! It was so cute watching the kids interact with the animals. Liam absolutely loved it.

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” - Winnie the Pooh

What a beautiful quote by Pooh! I had to include it somehow at Liam’s party so I decided to add it to the backdrop of the party favours table. We had two different party favours at the table, for the adults and for the kids. The green garland across the front of the table is from Amazon here.

For the adults, I made little honey jar party favours to fit the Winnie the Pooh theme. I ordered the honey jars and honey sticks from Amazon for a reasonable price and bought honey from the grocery store. You can use any fabric piece on top of the honey jars, but I just got these mesh pieces from the dollar store and cut them into squares to fit on top of the jars.

The custom tags completed the honey jars. I ordered these printable tags through Etsy and printed them at Staples on a thicker paper.

It was a little difficult trying to figure out party favours for the kids that fit the theme. So instead, since Liam’s a spring baby, I decided to create party favours to fit the season. I ordered these adorable toy buckets from Amazon and filled them with a few small spring/summer pieces like a soccer ball, sunglasses, sand toys, bubbles, and a lollipop. They loved them!

The hall we rented is the John G Mlacak Community Centre Hall B. It was very spacious for the number of people we had at Liam’s birthday party. They provided the tables and chairs which was perfect so we only had to focus on the table setting. We got our own table linens from Walmart, the vases and vase details from the Dollar Store and the flowers from Costco. The plastic plates and cutlery were also from Costco. I was so nervous about how everything would turn out but I think we did pretty well putting the tables together. The flowers in the vases were beautifully arranged by Rita Fleuriste.

We bought both the ribbon and string separately and glued them onto the vases to complete the look of the centerpieces. I LOVE how they turned out!
